Antioch High School’s “Most Outstanding Football Player” Trophy Donated to the ASL
The last recipient of Antioch High School’s “Most Outstanding Football Player” trophy, Bill Carroll ’63 has donated the coveted perpetual trophy to the Antioch Sports Legends Hall of Fame Museum. The trophy has been in Carroll’s possession for 60 years.
The trophy was first awarded in 1952 at the post season football banquet and was sponsored by the popular Jame’s Men’s Shop.
According to ASL President Mike Hurd‘s research, the first recipient was Kirk Baughman, followed in 1953 by Hall of Famer inductees, Carl Maxwell (HOF 2010), 1954 Grover Garvin (HOF 2009), 1955 Ray Harrington (HOF 2011) and in 1962 Ron Edwards (HOF 2007). No explanation as to why there was six-year break (1956-1961) before Edwards received the trophy.
The “Most Outstanding Football Players” trophy is on display in the football section of the museum.
Thanks again Bill!
