Antioch Sports Legends mourns the passing of Stephen Parks

With great sadness we share the passing of former Executive Board member and friend Stephen Parks. Steve died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 31, he was 71.

Steve’s passing was announced by his wife Marian and their sons Greg and Jon on his Facebook page on Thursday. The Antioch Sports Legends Board, staff and volunteers offer our most sincere sympathies to the Parks family at this difficult time.

Steve was a 2015 Hall of Fame Football Inductee and a proud teammate of the 1970 Antioch High Hall of Fame Baseball Team. We offer our deepest sympathies to Steve’s teammates, golf buddies and many friends.

The Sports Legends is grateful to Steve for his deep involvement on the Executive Board, Research and Recognition, Alumni Tournament and General committees. And for his fiduciary guidance on the Sports Legends Funds and Transition Committee in 2016.

As the Alumni Golf Tournament committee Co- Chair, Steve had an easy-going style but when it came to task on hand, he played hard ball. He was always organized and kept meticulous spreadsheets and charts on profit and loss, ticket sales, expenses, foursomes, etc. But what Steve enjoyed most, was teaming up Hall of Fame cousins Rally and Butch Rounsaville for five outstanding tournaments from 2014-2019.

As an athlete, Steve was always proud of beating Pittsburg High in 1969 to stop the streak. He was the game’s leading rusher (63 yards) and scored the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter of a 20-0 Antioch victory. He did so with a broken elbow. For more on Steve’s Hall of Fame football career-

In 2020, Steve tapered his involvement due to health reasons and to spend more time enjoying life with his wife Marian, and their son’s Greg and Jon’s families.

At Steve’s request the family has established a go-fund-me account with the purpose of, “to share a path to education through sports with a scholarship fund. Should you be inclined”, https://www.gofundme.com/…/support-steves-legacy…

A celebration of life is being planned by the Parks family. Please watch here for an update.
