2005 AHS Wrestling

Ben McCorriston was the 2005 North Coast Section and Bay Valley Athletic League Wrestling Champion at the 112-weight class. He was a key member of the Antioch High School wrestling team that made NCS wrestling history as the first team to become champions of the NCS Team Dual Meet and NCS Wrestling Championships. He was a two-time NCS medal placer, earning 1st place as a senior and 5th place as a junior. He was a three-time placer in the BVAL, earning 1st as a senior, 3rd place as a junior and sophomore. He won individual championships at Mission San Jose and Clayton Valley tournaments. Ben’s style of wrestling was taking down, release and takedown.

Ben dedicated many hours of his off-season, training and conditioning with support of his family, his brother Cody, teammates and coach Lovell. Ben participated twice in the National High School Coaches Association Open Division Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., with his brother Taylor and Nathan Bingham (Sports Legend 2021 Inductee) placing 6th his senior and junior years. He also placed 4th at the Reno World Championships. By earning three national placements, he received three All-American certificates. He wrestled at the Down Under International Games in Australia, and earned 2nd place in the USA Freestyle Junior Championships.

He wrestled two years at Wartburg College in Iowa, winning his first three individual championships as a member of the Wartburg College wrestling team that won two National Division 3 NCCA titles. Ben graduated with a college degree in History and Philosophy.

Following college, Ben was an assistant junior high school wrestling coach with Coach Lovell. Ben returned to his alma mater as head wrestling coach of Antioch High School (2011- 2015).     He guided Kyle Clark to earning a 3rd place medal at the CIF State Wrestling Championships.
